TAMPA, Fla. — If you're single in the Tampa area, it looks like you're in the right place.
A new study by WalletHub ranked the city No. 5 among the best places for single people. Researchers compared more than 180 cities across 35 indicators of dating-friendliness. The city in the Sunshine State got a total score of 60.50 out of 100.
The three dimensions compared were economics, fun and recreation, and dating opportunities. Economics included metrics such as restaurant-meal costs, average price for a two-person meal and taxi-fare cost. Fun and recreation included number of attractions, restaurants per capita and nightlife options per capita, to name a few. Dating opportunities, which accounted for the most points, included metrics such as share of the single population, singles gender balance and online dating opportunities.
Tampa ranked No. 110 for its economics score, No. 13 for fun and recreation and No. 22 for dating opportunities.
The data used by researchers was from multiple sources including government data, Google Trends, Eventbrite and TripAdvisor, among many others.
Although it's close on a map, St. Petersburg came in at No. 95 with a score of 50.22. The top three cities were Atlanta, Las Vegas and Seattle.
However, in a study from data aggregation website Spokeo.com from June, Florida was ranked the worst state for singles in 2024. The Sunshine State didn't do well across the board of the eight factors considered.
Two factors that tanked the state's ranking were having a high number of confidence or romance crimes and not having a lot of mental health providers.
