Tampa police to host 'Town Hall Tuesday' meeting in Ybor City weeks after deadly shooting

The goal of the meeting is to ultimately "work toward community-focused solutions."

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department is planning on hosting "Town Hall Tuesday" in Ybor City after recent shootings.

The meeting will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Centro Asturiano De Tampa, located at 1913 N Nebraska Avenue, a news release explains.

Police will be asking for input from residents, business owners and other stakeholders throughout Ybor following the Oct. 29 shooting that left two people dead and many other people hurt.

The goal is to ultimately "work toward community-focused solutions."

These specific town hall meetings are an expansion of the police department's ongoing community-oriented policing efforts that first came about back in August, the release explains.

It will be an open forum and opportunity for people in the community to come together with the agency to prevent and reduce crime.

"The incident that occurred is not a reflection of the Ybor Community, and understandably, this community has concerns, since then, that we want to address," Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. "Everyone has the right to feel safe and should feel safe in the places they visit, work, and live.

"By hosting this town hall, we hope that together we can not only address their concerns, but work towards ensuring that the Historic Ybor City District remains a safe place for all."
