TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa Police Department officer is on administrative leave following his arrest for a reported domestic violence incident, authorities say.
Investigators say Cornelius Young, who had been with TPD since November 2023, was arrested in an off-duty incident in Sun City on Wednesday, July 17, after a reported verbal fight with a woman he knew turned physical, the agency said in a news release. The victim had minor injuries.
The relationship between the two is unknown.
“To say this is disappointing is an understatement,” Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victim involved. We are committed to transparency with our internal investigation. The allegations don’t represent the mission of the Tampa Police Department.”
Young will remain on administrative leave while the investigation continues, the agency said.
