TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department's K-9s had the chance to jump into action both on land and on water at Adventure Island.

The agency held a regional training at the park to help build their K-9s confidence and better prepare them for real-life service calls while being in a safe and controlled environment.

"A special thank you to Adventure Island for hosting and our regional law enforcement partners for joining us as we work to make our communities safer together," TPD said in a post on Facebook.

The K-9 unit is made up of 21 teams who all serve different functions everyday. That includes patrolling different areas, detecting explosives and as well as narcotics detection.

According to the RiseTampa website, the K-9 teams also partner with different organizations to inform the community about their positive impact.
