TAMPA, Fla. — People are being told to shelter in place in Tampa after a natural gas line ruptured Tuesday morning.
Just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, Tampa Fire Rescue reported that crews were on the scene of an 8-inch natural gas line rupture in Tampa at the intersection of North 30th Street and East Bougainvillea Avenue.
Fire Rescue says 30th Street is closed as a result. A shelter-in-place notification has been given to residents living within a four-block area of the rupture.
According to TECO, the natural gas pipeline was damaged by "third-party construction equipment." Repairs are expected to take several hours, TECO said.
