TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Mayor Jane Castor publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.

"The stakes couldn't be higher in this upcoming election & I'm excited to endorse @VP Harris. The Biden Harris Administration has delivered on major Tampa infrastructure projects and I know that will continue in a Harris Administration," Castor wrote on X Tuesday afternoon.

"VP Harris will put our community first."

Castor joins Tampa Rep. Kathy Castor in a growing list of Democrats supporting Harris' presidential bid for the nomination.

“The stakes are high and I think Vice President Harris is the right person at the right time to prosecute the case against Donald Trump, a convicted felon, a very, very poor role model for our kids,” Kathy Castor said at a press conference Monday in Tampa.

Other Florida Democrats have already thrown support for Harris' campaign. Of the 254 Florida DNC delegates, 236 are backing Harris' candidacy.

“I’m extremely proud to enthusiastically put my support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, easily the most accomplished and qualified candidate in either party,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Broward County, said in a statement.

“I want to express my unequivocal support and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris — she is the trusted leader that we need in this time,” Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said in a statement. “She’s spent the last four years as a governing partner to the most experienced president in history, and she’s ready for the battle."

Florida Republicans have also weighed in. U.S. Sen. Rick Scott has called for Biden's resignation, and Gov. Ron DeSantis has called out Harris' credibility.

"Let me be clear, if Joe Biden can’t run for re-election, he is not capable of serving as president for the next six months and needs to resign today," Scott said in a statement

"She also was the border czar during the worst border crisis in American history. Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic,"  DeSantis said in an X post.
