Jesuit High School fires part-time coach after video surfaces showing him hit player during game

The player was not hurt, the school said.

TAMPA, Fla. — A part-time assistant coach with the Jesuit High School football team is out of a job after video surfaced of him hitting a player during Friday night's game, the school said.

The video, shared online by Kevin Hobbs, a former NFL player and defensive coordinator for Tampa Bay Tech High, showed the moments when the player runs off the field to the sideline. As he does so, the part-time assistant coach can be seen immediately hitting the young player on the helmet.

The video continues to show the coach walking over and confronting the student, yelling at him for several seconds before walking away.

When sharing the video clip, Hobbs called the behavior "shameful."

According to the private Christian school, the coach — who was not named — was fired as of Sunday night. The news was reportedly shared with school families before being posted online.

In a message to Jesuit High School families, the school's president explained in part the "behavior contradicts what the school stands for and is completely contrary to the expectations we have for coaches, moderators, and faculty members, who are to be role models for our students and mentors in their development as young men."

The president went on to say the school reached out to the student and his family. The player was not hurt after the part-time coach hit him, the school added.

The school's message explained leaders met with the coach and informed him he wouldn't be coaching Jesuit football or helping the school in any other capacity. You can read the school's message in full below or by clicking here
