TAMPA, Fla. — If you're planning on flying from a Tampa Bay-area airport on Sunday, make sure to check your flight status as airlines start to cancel and delay flights because of Tropical Storm Debby.
As of this writing, there are 135 cancellations and 187 delays out of a total of 496 flights at Tampa International Airport, according to airport data. The airport remains "open and operational," according to an X post, but airport staff encourages people to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
At St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, there have been 31 delays and seven cancellations, according to Flight Aware.
There have been 34 delayed flights and 15 canceled flights at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
While Tropical Storm Debby is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend region of the state, the Tampa Bay area will still feel its effects. Forecasters anticipate Debby will reach Category 1 hurricane strength late Sunday into early Monday morning as it approaches the Big Bend.
The Tampa Bay area will see heavy rainfall with possible flooding and storm surge.
