Firefighter injured while battling Tampa house fire

No one else was hurt and the firefighter is in "stable" condition at the hospital. The family was displaced due to the fire.

TAMPA, Fla. — A firefighter was hospitalized after battling an early morning house fire Friday in Tampa, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said in a release. 

The 911 call came in around 3:10 a.m. The caller reported a fire at a home on Croton Avenue in Tampa's Progress Village area. When fire crews arrived, they said smoke and flames were coming from the home. 

The blaze was put out in about 20 minutes, fire crews said. More crews arrived to assist with primary and secondary searches of the home and help with water supply. 

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, but the family was displaced. Photos provided by Fire Rescue show significant damage to the home. 

One firefighter was taken to the hospital because of an "injury sustained" at the fire. He is reportedly in "stable" condition. 

Hillsborough Fire Rescue said the American Red Cross has been called to assist the family. 

The fire's cause is still being investigated.
