Firefighters work to put out hotspots for hours after South Tampa house fire

Flames were seen coming from the roof of the house around 4 a.m.

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Fire Rescue crews managed to control a house fire that started Monday morning on the corner of Platt and Gomez streets in South Tampa.

No injuries have been reported from the scene of the fire, nor does anyone appear to have been inside the house during the blaze.

Rescue crews arrived on the scene around 4 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming through the roof of the house. It took firefighters roughly 45 minutes to get the blaze under control. Firefighters were still on the scene trying to put out the hotspots of the fire three hours later.

Although no one was reported hurt in the blaze, concerns persisted that the fire would cause morning traffic delays due to the house's proximity to Mitchell Elementary School.

Firefighters went through the home twice and confirmed no one was home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
