TAMPA, Fla. — A 71-year-old woman in Tampa faces a murder charge after claiming she killed the man she was living with because he wouldn't clean up after himself, police said.
The investigation began just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on East 26th Avenue in Tampa after police say they got a call about a shooting that had just happened.
When they arrived, officers said they found a man; he'd been shot several times. He was rushed to the hospital where he died, the news release said. His name has not been released.
Detectives said their investigation revealed 71-year-old Patricia Whitehead and the man lived at the home together. Police did not offer any information about Whitehead's relationship with the victim.
Whitehead reportedly became angry with the man, "claiming he did not clean up after himself," the release said.
On the morning of June 13, the man left the house and slammed the door behind him, Whitehead reportedly told police. That's when Whitehead allegedly went to grab her gun from her bedroom.
After retrieving the firearm, Whitehead reportedly walked outside the home and shot the man multiple times.
Police said they arrested Whitehead, charging her with first-degree murder. She was taken to the Orient Road Jail, police added.
