TAMPA, Fla. — A dog found abandoned in someone's yard is now receiving the love and support he deserves, and it's all thanks to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
The shelter took in one-year-old Korey, who they said spent much of his life in a small wire crate without a way to escape or survive. This caused him to suffer from painful urine burns on his paw pads, severe muscle atrophy and extreme malnutrition.
Thankfully, the HSTB staff gave him food, water, medicine and a much-needed bath to cleanse the urine and feces that covered him.
The staff also ran a few tests on Korey and found that his prognosis was more positive than expected. They said his blood work showed that he is anemic but not in renal failure. That means while he has a long way to go, he is expected to make a full recovery into a healthy and happy boy.
The HSTB medical team said they're making sure Korey is cared for during the day. Then at night, he is comforted by an experienced foster and continues to happily wag his tail.
Meanwhile, Hillsborough County Animal Control has opened an investigation to try and find the person or people responsible for this case, according to HSTB.
