HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed Sunday night following an apparent fight in Sun City Center, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies said.
The incident reportedly happened around 10:43 p.m. Sunday after deputies received a call of shots fired on Camp Island Avenue.
Once they arrived, deputies discovered a man dead with a gunshot wound.
After an investigation, the sheriff's office determined that a group of people gathered outside the community center before a fight broke out. That was when the man was shot, according to deputies.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said detectives "are working diligently to find out what led to this tragic incident."
"We urge anyone with information to come forward and speak with our detectives," Chronsiter stated in a news release. "Even the smallest details can make a difference in our investigation."
Anyone with information on the case can call detectives at 813-247-8200. The sheriff's office said the investigation is active and ongoing.
