RUSKIN, Fla. — One of the last standing drive-in movie theaters in Tampa Bay is rebuilding after Hurricane Milton.

The Ruskin Family Drive-In, which has been in operation for 72 years, says they are dealing with about $100,000 worth of damage.

"[The storm] destroyed that beautiful screen that we had," owners Ted and Karen Freiwald said.

The hurricane ripped up the screen, knocked over trees and tore down parts of the fence. On Oct. 20, they plan to have tree trimmers, repair workers and neighbors come in to help.

"We're gonna have a cleanup crew, made up of the community of Ruskin coming out here to start cleaning up the trees and all the debris in hopes that we get it cleaned up," Karen Freiwald said.

They hope to get the drive-in cleaned up in time to host a trunk-o-treat event on the last weekend of the month. They will announce the date for that event on their Facebook page.

Right now, they are raising money to fix the screen.

"Our hope is to get rebuilt so that by Thanksgiving we're back up and running showing Moana 2," Karen Freiwald said.
