TAMPA, Fla. — On your mark, get set, go!
The popular runway event at Tampa International Airport is returning for its 10th year, and it's time for competitors to register.
Starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, registration opened for people who would like to take part in the TPA 5K, the airport said in a news release.
TPA says in prior years, spots for the event have sold out quickly. So, people are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
The early registration fee is $40 while the regular registration fee is $45.
Those who register for the race will receive a T-shirt, medal, refreshments and the chance to enter a raffle for airline tickets and other prizes. Anyone who does not want a T-shirt will have $5 off the registration fee.
For anyone who is not in the Tampa area, you're still in luck! TPA says there will be a virtual 5K with a $30 registration fee. This option will allow participants to pick the path they want to run and complete it at a time and place of their convenience. A T-shirt and finisher medal will be mailed to the person's home after the official event is over.
The 5K race will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 6 on Runway 10/28.
People of all ages and abilities can participate in the chip-time event. The race is limited to the first 2,000 people.
TPA says all guests must follow these rules before and during the race:
- Please register the kids to run or walk but no strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes or pets allowed.
- Stay on the course. Anyone deviating from the course will be removed from the race.
- All participant registrations are non-transferable and non-refundable.
- Selfie sticks will NOT be allowed on the runway.
