Hillsborough Animal Control rescues puppies under abandoned house

Animal Control received reports of an aggressive dog and found she has given birth to five puppies.

TAMPA, Fla. — Five puppies and their mother are safe after Hillsborough County Animal Control staff rescued them from a crawl space under a vacant home.

They got a call about a possibly aggressive dog under the house, and it turned out the dog recently gave birth and was very protective of her babies, according to a news release.

The mama dog was caught and an officer was able to shimmy underneath the house and pull the puppies out with a blanket. Body camera footage shows her in the very tight space with her headlight taking the dogs out. They were all taken to the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and are doing fine.

The puppies will stay with their mom for another few weeks before being put up for adoption.

Pictures show the mixed breed dogs who are very tiny and "ridiculously cute." Officials said the puppies are only a week or so old.

The dogs will be turned over to a local pet rescue group.
