Tampa police: Man who was shot crashes into house, injures woman inside

Police say the man crashed into the house and died from his injuries while the woman inside is stable.

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police are investigating a shooting that resulted in a person crashing their car into a house. The resulting investigation briefly put a nearby school on lockdown.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired just after 8 a.m. Monday and found a car collided with a home on Courtland Street near East Osborne Avenue. Officials said the driver was shot by an unknown suspect resulting in the crash. He was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

A woman who was inside the house was also hospitalized and is "stable," according to police.

Potter Elementary School, which is nearby, was placed on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution," but it has since been lifted.

Detectives are working to identify and locate the suspect and determine the motive of the shooting.

Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call the Tampa Police Non-Emergency Line at 813-231-6130 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
