TAMPA, Fla. — This Father's Day was extra special for a man in Hillsborough County, who thought he wouldn't get to see his kid this holiday.
He was in jail for a non-violent misdemeanor crime and was unable to make his $250 bail.
The group Faith in Florida surprised him and paid it for him. They posted bail for two other men as well.
“I think that there was shock from them that strangers were there to greet them,” Bernice Lauredan with Faith in Florida said. “One of the gentlemen had actually grown up in the foster care system, and so he didn't have any family who could come and give him $250 to get out of jail.”
The group hopes these small acts can help these men, but they also hope it brings awareness to what they see as problems with the criminal justice system, including paid bail.
