More of South Tampa, Hillsborough Co. at higher risk for flooding with new map: FEMA

Hillsborough County residents can learn more about how the map changes will impact them at open house meetings.

TAMPA, Fla. — More than 60,000 Hillsborough County properties could have a new flood zone designation.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency released the new proposed maps and said they are a better reflection of flooding risks for homes and businesses.

This is the first time in about 30 years the maps have been updates, FEMA officials said.

Hillsborough County sent about 35,000 letters to property owners who could be affected in unincorporated areas, Hillsborough County hazard mitigation manager Eugene  Henry said. The city of Tampa mailed about 27,000 notices to its residents, flood plain administrator Dave Jennings said.

Hillsborough County residents can learn more about how the map changes will impact them at open house meetings.

Here are when those meetings will be held:

April 3, 5 to 8 p.m., Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave. in Tampa.

April 4, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave. in Tampa.
