PLANT CITY, Fla. — A 30-year-old man was hospitalized after he reportedly set himself on fire Wednesday evening inside a Publix store in Plant City.
It happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the Walden Woods Shopping Plaza, located at 2202 James L. Redman Parkway.
Police responded after receiving a call that a man was on fire inside the store. Several people throughout the Publix worked to extinguish the flames.
The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
On Thursday morning, a Plant City police spokesperson said the man "intentionally poured an accelerant on himself and lit himself on fire."
