Gunman seen firing at students near Riverview high school arrested

Jahfahree Edwards faces several charges, including attempted murder in the second degree using a firearm.

RIVERVIEW, Fla. — Deputies arrested a man who investigators say fired several shots at students in mid-February not far from Spoto High School.

Surveillance video captured the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Jahfahree Edwards, shooting toward several people, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The video showed the person firing their weapon, with many people scattering away from the scene.

The sheriff's office said the shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Feb. 14 during a fight down the street from Spoto High School.

Edwards was arrested on Feb. 29 staying with a family member in the area of North Central Avenue and Flame Wood Court in Tampa.

"I stand relieved knowing that this violent criminal is no longer a threat to our community," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "While we're grateful that no one fell victim to his actions, let this serve as a reminder that there's no refuge for those who choose to cause chaos. Committing crimes like this will not go unpunished."

Edwards faces several charges, including attempted murder in the second degree using a firearm, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony with a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and throwing a deadly missile within or into a vehicle.
