TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers who normally take Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa were asked to find an alternate route for several hours Friday morning.
This was because authorities had to shut down a portion of the road while fire crews worked to put out a house fire.
Around 6 a.m., Tampa police said fire crews were working an "active structure fire" in the area of Kennedy Boulevard and South Lincoln Avenue.
Firefighters said they arrived at the scene to find the home heavily involved in smoke and fire. No injuries were reported.
As fire crews worked to control the fire, both eastbound and westbound lanes of Kennedy Boulevard were closed from Henderson Boulevard to North Himes Avenue.
Police said at the time they didn't know how long this portion of the road would be shut down. Drivers were advised to "expect delays as traffic is re-routed in this area." The road has since reopened.
