CHEVAL, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies arrested a man they said took off from a traffic stop before crashing into a parked car before attempting to hide.
The pursuit of the driver, identified by deputies as 20-year-old Jefferey Acevedo, started just after 8:15 p.m. near Van Dyke Road and Lake Carlton Drive in Cheval.
After Acevedo allegedly drove off from being pulled over, the Hillsborough County Aviation Section "quickly sprang into action" and began tracking the man. The sheriff's office shared video from the helicopter that shows him driving through an apartment complex before getting out and running away.
The video ends with deputies locating the man and detaining him.
While trying to get away, Acevedo is accused of crashing into a car and taking off from the scene, adding to a list of charges:
- Driving with license canceled, suspended or revoked
- Reckless driving
- Fleeing to elude high-speed
- Leaving the scene of a crash with property damage
- Out-of-county warrant, willful flee/elude law enforcement
“Reckless behavior like this endangers lives, and we will continue to ensure those who break the law are held accountable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “This case highlights the teamwork between our units as we work to serve and protect Hillsborough County.”
