Hillsborough early voting still to start Monday despite Debby

Registered voters can go to any of the 27 locations to vote for the next two weeks.

TAMPA, Fla. — Early voting is starting Monday morning in Hillsborough County despite flooded roadways and storm conditions from Hurricane Debby.

Hillsborough County residents can vote every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 18. Registered voters can go to any of the 27 locations during this period, unlike during Election Day when voters have to go to the polling place assigned to their precinct, according to a news release.

Each location also has a ballot intake station where people can drop off their vote-by-mail ballots. You can view all the locations to vote and all the acceptable forms of ID here.

“We are a large county and I want our voters to have plenty of options to cast their ballot. I keep early voting open for the maximum number of days allowed by law, including two full weekends,” Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer in a statement said.

The locations will still be open despite major and local roads being closed due to flooding and slick conditions from Hurricane Debby, which made landfall as a Category 1 storm near Florida's Big Bend region on Monday morning.

"Please exercise extreme caution on the roads—conditions are slick, and flooded areas should be avoided," Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies said in a post.

Some roads in Hillsborough County that are closed include part of Bayshore Boulevard. Storm surge and torrential rainfall brought flooding to the Tampa region with trees and power lines down throughout Hillsborough County.

If you're planning on voting today, you can check on the road closures here. Also, remember to bring a Florida driver's license or other acceptable photo and signature ID for check-in.
