RUSKIN, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies jumped into action after receiving a call about an elderly boater in trouble.
The heroic rescue happened Monday night outside the Shell Point Marina in Ruskin.
The sheriff's office said it received a call from a man who said his father, possibly in the early stages of dementia, was stuck on his boat.
Deputies launched a search for the 72-year-old man, who was eventually spotted by a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office aviation unit.
Marine units located the man on his boat, which was stuck on a sandbar, and safely got him aboard a sheriff's office vessel. Luckily, deputies said the man was not hurt.
