Detectives asking for tips in 2022 cold case shooting that killed 15-year-old girl

Laci Gilileo was at a Halloween party in Thonotosassa when an argument led to gunfire.

THONOTOSASSA, Fla. — More than a year after she was shot and killed, the person responsible for shooting 15-year-old Laci Gilileo is still at large, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The case has gone cold, but detectives say they aren't giving up and have a renewed ask for people to come forward with information they may have about the shooting or shooter.

"No lead is too small," Sheriff Chad Chronister said, in part, in a statement.

The investigation started around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 1, 2022, at a home on Harney Road near U.S. 301 in Thonotosassa after deputies said they received multiple calls about a shooting. When they arrived, deputies said they found a male teen who'd been shot.

He was rushed to the hospital for treatment and survived.

A short time later, deputies said they found a 15-year-old, later identified as Gilileo, at a nearby Petrol Mart. She'd been shot, too, and was rushed to the hospital. She died from her injuries. She was a student at Bloomingdale High School.

Detectives learned a Halloween party was held at the Harney Road home and said an argument at the party broke out before the shooting. At this time, detectives still aren't sure if the shooter knew either teen.

However, detectives said they are relatively certain "numerous" people who either were at the party or have knowledge of the shooting haven't come forward yet. The sheriff's office is urging people to come forward and interview with detectives because it "could be the piece that helps solve this crime."

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call 813-247-8200.

"Our dedicated detectives never stop pursuing justice," Chronister said in a statement. "We hope we can give the families impacted by this senseless violence some sort of healing this holiday season by solving this case. If you were at this party or know someone who was there, please contact our detectives. No lead is too small."
