'Don't run': Man arrested after crashing truck during traffic stop, trying to leave the scene

The HCSO aviation unit was able to quickly locate the man after he left his crashed truck behind.

PALM RIVER-CLAIR MEL, Fla. — A man faces several charges after he tried to get away from several deputies during a traffic stop, crashed his truck and then attempted to leave the area, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. Monday in the area of 78th Street and Rideout Road in the Palm River-Clair Mel area. Deputies said they tried to perform a traffic stop on a black pickup truck. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Angelo Juan Pedrosa drove away from deputies and crashed on Rideout Road.

By the time deputies tracked down the truck, Pedrosa was gone and the truck was empty.

The HCSO aviation unit was flying at the time and was able to locate a man matching Pedrosa's description walking "rapidly" southbound on 78th Street.

Aerial video released by the sheriff's office shows Pedrosa walking along the road before deputies were able to track him down and confront him. The video shows Pedrosa was taken into custody without further incident.

Pedrosa faces felony fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and driving with a license canceled, suspended or revoked.

The sheriff's office used Pedrosa's arrest as a reminder that if you get in a crash, you should remain at the scene.

"It is never a good idea to leave the scene of a crash," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Our deputies will find you, and it will go worse for you when charged for your crimes. Do the right thing. Don't run.”
