TAMPA, Fla. — Cody's Original Roadhouse in Tampa was destroyed early Thursday morning after a massive fire ripped through the building
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says crews were called around 5:15 a.m. to the steakhouse restaurant located on West Hillsborough Avenue after getting reports of a fire.
This prompted a huge response from the agency, with multiple units responding to the restaurant.
When the first units arrived, they reported Cody's Original Roadhouse was fully engulfed in flames. Crews reportedly tried to get inside to fight the fire, but conditions were deemed too dangerous, and it wasn't safe to enter the building.
From there, crews say they pivoted to what they call a defensive attack, using elevated water streams. At least two ladder trucks were battling the blaze from above when Sky 10 flew over the fire.
Photos and videos released by fire rescue show extensive damage to the restaurant. Several of Cody's Original Roadhouse's walls had caved in after most of the roof collapsed. Charred studs were all that remained of parts of the restaurant.
One of the restaurant's signs on the building was seen melting and falling apart.
