2 dead, 1 injured after overnight Tampa shooting, police say

It happened early Sunday morning.

TAMPA, Fla. — Two people are dead and one is injured after a shooting in Tampa.

Officers on patrol heard shots fired and responded just before 3 a.m. Sunday to a parking lot near the intersection of South Howard Avenue and West Horatio Street, Tampa police said.

Three adult men were injured and transported to the hospital where two died and one was injured after he was shot in the leg. Police said the shooting stemmed from a dispute, and the people involved knew each other.

The two people killed were 28-year-old Kenneth Washington and 23-year-old Kevon Christmas.

"These senseless acts of violence that occurred this morning happened in an area that was busy," said State Attorney Suzy Lopez at a press conference Sunday morning.

Police Chief Lee Bercaw said police are now looking for video that people in the area might have taken to help find out who shot these men.

Roads are back open in the area and employees are being let into businesses.
