HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A man is dead after he lost control of his car while getting off Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County, resulting in the car splitting in two, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday on the northbound I-75 exit ramp to U.S. 301 in the area between Temple Terrace and Thonotosassa.

According to troopers, the 34-year-old Ruskin man was driving his Honda Civic at a "high rate of speed" on the I-75 exit ramp when he lost control of his car. That's when the car rotated into the separator between the ramp and the mainline.

The car also hit two sign supports. Troopers say this resulted in the car being cut in two.

The man and his two passengers were rushed to area hospitals, however, the driver later died from his injuries. The two men riding in the Civic are being treated for their injuries.
