TAMPA, Fla. — A man was killed Tuesday night after a car crashed into a Carrabba's Italian Grill in Tampa, according to the Tampa Police Department.
The crash happened just before 9:40 p.m. at the restaurant located at 700 N. Dale Mabry Highway.
Investigators said 30-year-old Angel Molina was speeding southbound down Dale Mabry Highway when he suddenly changed lanes, running off the road and hitting a power pole. Then, Molina reportedly ran over the man before crashing into the building.
Officers said the man was sleeping outside the restaurant in a parking lot when the car hit him. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police arrested Molina and charged him with DUI manslaughter, driving with a suspended license, refusing to submit to testing and DUI property damage.
A section of Dale Mabry Highway was shut down southbound from Cypress Street while police investigated the cause of the crash.
Witnesses told police Molina removed a can of an alcoholic drink from his car before officers arrived. Officers said he showed visible signs of being impaired. Molina refused to take a breath test, but a medical blood test later measured at .187.
