Deputies arrest 24-year-old man in connection to deadly shooting in Brandon

Gregory Hornsby is believed to have fatally shot a man after a fight near the Advance Auto Parts on Highview Road and East Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

BRANDON, Fla. — A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection to Friday's deadly shooting in Brandon, according to an update from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Gregory Hornsby, who is believed to have fatally shot a man after a fight near the Advance Auto Parts on Highview Road and East Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

 "Tonight, our community saw a senseless act of violence take place, but even in that tragedy, our deputies swiftly restored order and security at the scene," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a previous statement. "I couldn't be more proud of the tireless work from our deputies to piece together what took place tonight, ensuring that justice prevails in our community."

Hillsborough County deputies began their investigation after being called to the scene around .4:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found Hornsby and a man dead at the scene.

"Murder is a heinous crime that should never be tolerated, and we must collectively condemn these actions," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement on Saturday, "In the face of this darkness, I commend the dedication and efforts of our deputies who pursued justice in this investigation. Their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of our citizens is a testament to the strength of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office." 

Hornsby has been arrested and taken to the Orient Road Jail. He is currently charged with murder in the first-degree premeditated firearm and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony with a weapon.
