Attorney dies in fatal boating accident off Egmont Key

Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported a fatal boating incident west of Egmont Key in Hillsborough County Saturday evening. The accident took place approximately 3 miles off Anna Maria in Manatee County.

According to reports, 59-year-old Henry West Hicks died while trying to retrieve the anchor to a 27-foot Black Watch vessel. Hicks was an attorney in the Tampa Bay area.

He practiced at The Law Office of Henry W. Hicks at 601 South Fremont Avenue in Tampa. It is a full-service real estate firm specializing in residential and commercial real estate law throughout Florida.

According to his website, his practice focuses on foreclosure defense and mortgage mitigation work in the form of mortgage modifications, short sales, bankruptcy, and distressed asset management.

Henry W. Hicks also owned Titlemark of South Tampa, LLC, a title insurance agency that conducts real estate closings acting as both escrow and disbursing agent.

In addition to his law practice, Henry also served as an adjunct professor in the graduate school of education at Nova University and owned various businesses over the last 30 years, including a strawberry farm, a 144-room hotel, a mobile home park, and a restaurant.
