TAMPA, Fla. — A 40-year-old man was arrested for threatening the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office online out of frustration with their customer service, according to deputies.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said that on Wednesday, Nov. 28, its criminal investigation division was alerted to a series of online comments threatening to "cause harm" to the tax collector's office, which the statement simply described as "alarming."

10 Tampa Bay reached out to HCSO asking what the threats specifically said and which platform they were posted to. We are still waiting for a response.

According to HCSO's statement, investigators were ultimately able to trace the threats to county resident Travis Leigh.

Detectives confronted Leigh at his home. Leigh allegedly admitted to writing and posting the threats and confirmed customer service frustration was his motive.

Leigh was arrested and charged with threatening to kill or do bodily injury.

"We take any threat against our public institutions and their employees very seriously," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Our detectives acted swiftly and efficiently to ensure the safety of all involved and to uphold the integrity of our community institutions."
