TAMPA, Fla. — Four people are in police custody after leading officers on a chase Monday night, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officers said around 8 p.m. Monday, they saw someone driving recklessly in a 2020 Nissan Rogue heading northbound on North 43rd Street from East Hanna Avenue.

Police attempted to make a traffic stop when they reportedly saw "gunfire from the suspect vehicle headed towards their immediate direction" before turning on their emergency lights. The Nissan's driver took off afterward, according to a news release.

After a brief pursuit, the driver stopped the car around North 53rd Street and Nancy Street, where it crashed into some bushes.

Five people got out; three of them ran to a nearby home but were quickly detained and taken into custody, according to the police department. Police K-9 units assisted in the apprehension.

Those in custody are 20-year-old Tyce Hunter, 21-year-old Jaden Roberts, 20-year-old Jerdavius Stubbs and 21-year-old Jamariq Travan, Tampa police said.

Hunter, Roberts and Stubbs each face one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling and a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer without violence, while Travan faces one felony count of fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer.

There was a previously reported fifth suspect, however, the department said that person was not involved and does not face any charges related to the chase.
