3-year-old boy riding bicycle hit, killed by car in Tampa

The toddler was with his siblings and his mother when the "heartwrenching tragedy" happened, the sheriff's office said.

TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies are investigating a pedestrian vs. car crash that left a 3-year-old boy dead on Thursday evening in Tampa.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on Pitch Pine Circle off of N 56th Street at the Place One Condominiums.

The toddler was riding his bicycle in a residential area with his siblings and his mother not far behind when he was hit by a Toyota Rav4 coming around the corner, according to the sheriff's office Media Relations Manager Jessica Lang.

The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lang called the crash "a heart-wrenching tragedy for everyone involved," adding that speed and impairment were not a factor.

The sheriff's office also said the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
