16-year-old arrested in connection to 2022 murder in Brandon

A teen was killed in a drug deal-turned-deadly shooting in 2022, deputies said.

BRANDON, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to a 2022 drug deal-turned-deadly shooting in Brandon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened on November 23, 2022, on Lake Chapman Drive. Another 16-year-old was killed.

Deputies say the teen arrested on Tuesday was identified as the driver in the incident. With his arrest, investigators say all four teen suspects in this homicide case are in custody.

On Tuesday, deputies obtained a court-ordered search warrant for the 16-year-old's home. They reportedly seized illegal drugs, firearms and money in their search.

The 16-year-old was charged with: 

  • First-degree murder while engaged in robbery
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Grand theft firearm
  • Armed possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver within 1,000 feet of a church
  • Minor in possession of a firearm

“This investigation highlights the relentless efforts of our detectives to ensure that victims and their families receive justice, no matter how long it takes," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our thoughts are with the victim's loved ones. It is our hope this helps bring them closure, knowing that justice will be served."
