Deputies: Mom arrested after young kids found walking in busy road

The incident happened Saturday morning.

SEBRING, Fla. — A woman was arrested after her two children were found walking down the middle of a busy road in Sebring on Saturday morning.

The 2-year-old and 4-year-old boys were spotted walking down the middle of Memorial Drive near Sebring Parkway around 10:15 a.m., according to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

When law enforcement found out where they lived, they went to their home on Parkview Road, which was a block from where the kids were walking.

Deputies said Amanda Marie Thomas, 30, was on the floor, unconscious. When she woke up, she didn't know where her children were and "expressed no concern when told where they had been found."

Thomas was arrested by deputies on charges of child neglect.

This wasn't the first time one of the children had left the house unnoticed by their mother and the father was at work when the incident occurred, deputies said.

Eight hours after the boys wandered off, Thomas' blood alcohol level was measured at  .152 on a breathalyzer test. The legal limit to drive is .08.

She was booked into the Highlands County Jail and is being held without bond.
