Katarina Moller was doing an exhibition run in a jet dragster at Sebring raceway when it crashed.

SEBRING, Fla. -- A 24-year-old jet dragster racer died Thursday night when she was hit by a piece of debris after her car struck a timing device, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office said.

Katarina "Kat" Moller was doing an exhibition run around 8 p.m. at Sebring International Raceway, 113 Midway Drive, when the car drifted toward the center line. As it crossed the line, the car hit the device.

A parachute meant to slow the vehicle also deployed, the sheriff's office said.

The vehicle then drifted right, scraping the right barrier wall before stopping.
