TAMPA, Fla. — A woman is in custody after she carjacked a 70-year-old man and then ran him over, Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said the victim's prognosis is grim.

The woman, identified as 41-year-old Lisa Nicosia, reportedly carjacked the man after she was transported to Tampa General Hospital-Brooksville on Saturday, suspected of having a substance abuse problem. Once at the hospital, she reportedly ran out of the facility's entrance and forcefully removed the victim from the vehicle's driver seat.

After entering the vehicle, Nicosia reportedly attempted to drive away, pinning the victim under one of the wheels, deputies said. Nicosia continued driving in reverse, running over the victim's upper body, despite the pleas of nearby nursing staff.

"Nurses immediately rendered aid to the victim until he was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in Tampa," the sheriff's office said in an emailed press release.

Nicosia was soon apprehended after the stolen car was recognized by nearby units, deputies said. She attempted to run away after officers began chasing her, but was soon stopped and taken into custody.

Nicosia is facing numerous charges, including attempted felony murder, carjacking, and resisting arrest, among others.
