BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A 13-month-old boy died by drowning after he fell into a decorative pond on property in Hernando County, authorities said.

Sheriff's office deputies and fire rescue responded just after 4:30 p.m. Monday to a home on Powell Road, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

A 911 caller soon after the incident reportedly told authorities the toddler fell into the water and family members were administrating CPR. Efforts to save the child continued as rescuers arrived; a helicopter aircrew responded and took him to a Tampa hospital.

Just after 6 p.m., however, the child died.

"Preliminary investigation reveals no signs of foul play," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The incident appears to have been a tragic accident."
