SPRING HILL, Fla. — A 19-year-old teen was arrested Wednesday night in Hernando after showing up to her ex-boyfriend's house unannounced to confront him but was met with his girlfriend instead and stabbed her, officials said.
Hernando County deputies said Jeffrey Hildebrandt, Jr. and Sydney McKelvy, 22, were "hanging out" as a couple at Hildebrandt's parent's house in Hernando County when his ex-girlfriend, Emily Morales, 19, showed up unannounced.
Hildebrandt reported he was worried she was there to start a fight, so he walked over to his mother, who was in another room, to tell her she was there.
When her boyfriend walked away, McKelvy answered the door and invited Morales into the house. That's when deputies say Morales became confrontational with McKelvy, pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed McKelvy in the chest.
Hildebrandt ran to the area the girls were in and found McKelvy stabbed. Morales tried to stab him before running from the house.
McKelvy was transferred to a trauma center, where she underwent surgery. She is still hospitalized, according to deputies.
Deputies found Morales at her house, where she was placed into custody and brought to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office for questioning.
During questioning, she admitted to going to her ex-boyfriend's house but didn't know McKelvy would be there and became confrontational with her. Morales said McKelvy was being aggressive toward her, which is when Morales decided to stab her in self-defense and threw out the knife on her way home, according to a news release.
Morales was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the news release. Her bond is set at $5,000.
