BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A large hole recently opened in the ground of a Hernando County property.
It happened in a residential area near Mississippi Kite Avenue and Marvelwood Road in Brooksville and was seen from the air Friday afternoon.
While authorities have not confirmed the cause of the hole, a local sinkhole repair company said it was caused by another company drilling a well on the property.
"Well-drilling is what activates a lot of sinkholes to fall out," Josh from APD Foundation Repair said. "A sinkhole forms when the ground beneath the surface can no longer support the land above it, causing it to collapse."
Authorities have not said if anyone was injured or if the hole will affect residents in the surrounding neighborhood.
