SPRING HILL, Fla. β A man who drove through a red light after putting on red and blue lights on his car was arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer.
A Hernando County Sheriff's detective was driving to work in an unmarked car when he saw a black Dodge Charger blow through a traffic light after activating the lights on top of his car at the intersection of Spring Hill Drive and Commercial Way.
The detective radioed for patrol deputies to conduct a traffic stop, and they found the Charger near a Lowe's.
During the stop, deputies identified the driver as Frank Michael DeJiulio Jr. The 35-year-old denied having the lights on the car but later admitted to activating the lights and running the light when the detective said he saw him do it.
DeJiulio was detained and charged with false personation and prohibited use of certain lights and his bond was set at $6,000.
The car, which belongs to his girlfriend, was towed.
Deputies say it's unknown if DeJiulio represented himself as a law enforcement officer while in contact with any citizens. Anyone having a personal interaction with him during which he identified himself as an officer is asked to call the sheriff's office at 352-754-6830.
