Authorities issued a statewide Missing Child Alert for two teenage girls from Brooksville who officials said may be in Pasco County.
Tayla Barnes, 15, and Lundynn Brooks, 17, were reported missing on April 9 in the area of Sheriff Mylander Way and State Road 50, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Officials said Barnes was wearing a sweater and blue jeans while Brooks was wearing a black T-shirt, pink and white camouflage pants and black boots.
It's believed Barnes could have a tattoo of the Roman numeral 18 (XVIII) on her wrist and a tattoo of a flower or heart on her ankle. Brooks may use the last name "Morales," and her hair may be dyed pink, FDLE said.
If anyone comes across the two teens, authorities ask that they do not approach and instead contact the Hernando County Sheriff's Office at 352-754-6830 or call 911.
For law enforcement to activate a Missing Child Alert, there must be "a well-founded belief, based on an active investigation, that the child is in danger of death or serious bodily injury," according to FDLE. This is different from an AMBER Alert, which requires an indication that the child has been abducted.
