Hernando deputies investigating crash involving farm worker bus; 8 people hurt

Deputies say drivers can expect the road to be closed for an extended time.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A crash in Hernando County has led to a road closure and multiple people hurt, including one serious injury.

A "school-type bus" carrying farm workers and a pickup truck were involved in the crash, the sheriff's office confirmed to 10 Tampa Bay. The intersection of Cortez Boulevard at Treiman Boulevard in Brooksville is blocked due to the collision, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. 

According to Hernando County Fire Rescue, crews saw passengers from the bus walking around while two passengers from the pickup truck were seriously hurt. One person riding in the truck required extrication.

Eight people were hurt as a result of the crash and taken to nearby hospitals, including one who was flown to a trauma center.

Deputies say drivers can expect the road to be closed for an extended time. People should use an alternate route or expect delays. 

The Florida Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash.
