Hernando deputies arrest 1 person for murder in connection to convenience store shooting

One victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the other died from her injuries.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Hernando County deputies arrested one person for murder after a shooting near a Mexican restaurant in the Ridge Manor area.

Donald Jamison, 21, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and robbery, according to a news release. The sheriff's office said additional charges may be pending.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning inside a convenience store next to the El Sol De Mexico Bar and Grill, not at the restaurant as originally indicated, in the area of Cortez Boulevard and Parkland Avenue.

Claudia Barbosa, 53, died from her injuries and her 28-year-old son, Nicolas Bello, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office. They were making a delivery to the business when the shooting happened.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis said there is no indication that there was a relationship between the suspect and the victims.

"Because of the quick action of my deputies, including some school resource deputies, we were able to gather some information very quickly and get a description out," Nienhuis said during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. "Highway patrol was actually able to help us get a person of interest as a very good lead to put this shooting to rest and get justice for the individuals that were shot."

Jamison is said to not be from the Hernando area and has a Georgia license plate.

The sheriff's office said detectives are working to determine a timeline leading up to the shooting.

There were two cars present at the scene, but it is believed that the second car is unrelated and was at the "wrong place at the wrong time," Nienhuis said. There is no information to support an accomplice who was helping Jamison.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Hernando County Sheriff's Office at 352-754-6830 or call 911.
