BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after a serious industrial accident at an aggregate supplier in Hernando County, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies say it happened shortly after 9 a.m. at CEMEX - Brooksville Quarry on Camp Mine Road in Brooksville.
Investigators say the man was working with heavy machinery in the "pit" of the quarry when, for unknown reasons, he became entangled within the equipment and was crushed.
The agency said mine workers worked to "separate" the man from the equipment. Once he was free, workers then tried to revive him, deputies say.
When first responders with Hernando County Fire and EMS arrived, the man was dead, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives say they are investigating the man's death. The medical examiner and Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) will also conduct their own investigations, authorities say.

"CEMEX is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our colleagues this morning at our Brooksville operations. CEMEX is providing support to those affected by this incident, and we are thankful for the assistance provided by the local first responders."
