HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A four-year-old girl was killed and two others were hospitalized following a serious car crash Saturday night on State Route 589 in Hernando County.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. just south of US Highway 98, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The driver, a 47-year-old woman from Lee, Florida, reportedly lost control of the car before leaving the roadway and striking a concrete culvert.

The car reportedly went airborne and overturned before coming to a stop along the shoulder of the highway. The woman and two passengers, a four-year-old girl and a seven-year-old girl, were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

The four-year-old died from her injuries at the hospital, according to FHP. The conditions of the woman and the seven-year-old girl are currently unknown.

FHP says the seven-year-old is the woman's daughter while the four-year-old was the daughter of her ex-husband and his new wife.
