SARASOTA, Fla. -- Freon leaking from the AC system caused a hazmat situation Wednesday afternoon near the therapy pool at Oak Park School on Proctor Road in Sarasota County.
Firefighters used a ventilation fan to clear the air, and a worker was sent to repair the AC unit.
All 14 children and nine adults, who were at summer camp on campus, were not in any danger. They were safe in a nearby building.
Sarasota County Fire Department Battalion Chief James Byrd thanked the school district for proactively dispatching crews to deal with the issue, including a representative from the pool company who verified there were no issues with the pool.
Multiple air quality tests were done, and no additional problems were discovered.
Oak Park School caters to students with special needs.
